November 03, 2009 -- LOS ANGELES, BUSINESS WIRE --

Liferay, Inc., provider of market-leading open source portal and social software for the enterprise, was recognized in the 2009 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace. Published by one of the IT industry's premier analyst firms, the report notes Liferay's successful adaptation of popular social innovations to the needs of goal-driven enterprise teams.

'Our flagship Liferay Portal product is a social web platform that allows users to create solutions that increase collective productivity through the power of social intelligence,' said Bryan Cheung, Liferay's CEO. 'Liferay Portal has been powering internal team collaboration at the enterprise level for years and now provides the framework for Liferay Social Office, our new out-of-the-box solution tailored for team collaboration and knowledge sharing.'

Liferay Portal allows for both internal and external social collaboration, while Social Office focuses on internal collaboration with seamlessly integrated blogs, wikis, forums, activity tracking, tagging, federated search, content/people recommendations, and dynamic document management. Both products were recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant report.

'Liferay's key capabilities around auditing, authorization, and identity management helps enterprises feel comfortable introducing social technologies into their organizations,' said Cheung. 'More importantly, Liferay's support for integration and customization allows enterprises to fit these technologies uniquely to their businesses to raise productivity, facilitate knowledge sharing, and innovate new revenue models.'

Liferay Portal is available in an Enterprise Edition providing a long-term support SLA, ongoing service pack releases, and optional software indemnification, as well as an open source Community Edition.
